2016 Western Star 5700xe

We decided to purchase a large truck after we wore out three different one-ton dually pickups.  We towed with a Freightliner M-2 business class for a couple of years, but decided since we were going to go full time in our RV we needed a small vehicle to get around town.

We located our tow vehicle in 2017 from a private party in Texas.  They purchased the truck from a dealer as a “demo” truck, so it had never seen any long-haul experience.  The owners modified the truck and titled it as a motor home and custom built the bed to haul a Smart car sideways.  The owners had to retire from RVing due to medical issues and it was set up exactly as we wanted, so we purchased it and drove it home to Washington state.

The truck is equipped with a DD-15 diesel engine and automatic 10-speed transmission with double overdrive.  It has all the features including air ride cab, air ride seats, adaptive cruise control and lane assist.  Since we purchased the truck it has been averaging 8 1/2 miles per gallon and has dual 120 gallon fuel tanks allowing us to drive over 1800 miles without stopping for fuel.

2017 DRV Mobile Suites 38RSSA

We’ve had a lot of RV’s over the years and our DRV Mobile Suites is the nicest yet!

This RV is a rear living 5th wheel and four slides.  The reason we chose the DRV brand is that it came standard with a number of options that were important to us such as disc brakes, 17.5″ wheels and tires and a 4-season insulation package.  We really love the layout as it allows us access to the refrigerator, bathroom and bedroom with the slides in.  The GVWR on this coach is 21,000 pounds.

2017 Smart Car

Our Smart car is our “grocery getter” and get around town vehicle.  It is surprisingly roomy and Jim fits into it without any problems.  It’s a Prime Convertible model and is a lot of fun to drive.  It has a 90HP turbo charged three cylinder engine mounted in the rear and is rear wheel drive.  This is one of the last gas powered Smarts imported into North America by Mercedes Benz.  The car is 106″ long making it the only vehicle imported into the US that will fit sideways on the truck bed.
